What is the biggest misconception about childfree people? The one I hear the most is that we are selfish. In fact, just two days ago I got a lovely (lovely is code for totally not lovely) comment describing how selfish I am as a childfree millennial. And that’s why I became especially excited upon hearing the title of filmmaker Therese Shechter’s current project: My So-Called Life — an upcoming childfree documentary that explores what it really means to be a woman without children in today’s society.

Shechter explains,

In this documentary I speak with a diverse group of women who have rejected the message that a woman’s most important—and perhaps only—role is to have children

I can not wait to see how this film tackles pronatalism.

Shechter assures me it will, “[T]he film connects the dots between historical, political and cultural forces that push a message of maternal inevitability so ingrained we no longer notice it.”

Today, September 19, Shechter and her team at Trixie Films launched a special Kickstarter campaign to help fund travel and interview expenses as well as the costs of film editing. You can donate by clicking here!

If you do decide to donate, you’ll be able to receive some pretty awesome rewards — tickets to the film premiere and after-party, customizable Golden Girls rings, and even an actual biological clock (ha!).

Are you interested in potentially being in the film? If so, you can click here to share your video with Trixie Films.

If you’re as excited as I am about this film, click here have a special share in making this childfree project become a definite reality.

It’s good to see a Gen Y woman support CF lifestyle. CF is a valid lifestyle and not need anyone’s approval.

    1. Mora, thank you for your comment! I agree. It’s encouraging to see women of many different generations approve of the childfree lifestyle.
